책 소개
This is the second volume of a three-volume work that is the product of an international research project carried out between 1996 and 2000 exploring nationalism as a driving force in the post-Soviet transformation of the state order in Eastern Europe. Six central issues animate the proceedings: how people define the characteristics that are constitutive of a nation, the conditions and factors that lead to democratic or authoritarian nationalisms, the relationship between state or civic nationalism and ethnic nationalism, the conditions and factors that lead to violent or peaceful resolutions of nationality conflicts, the connections between mode of conflict resolution and the organizational form and political program of national movements, and the social groups that are the social carriers of national movements and provide their intellectual and political leaders. Presented by Jahn (emeritus, political science and contemporary history, U. of Mannheim, Germany), the 16 papers of the second volume are case studies of nationalisms in Russia, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, and Romania.
