책 소개
Presented as a companion to America's Role in Nation-Building: From Germany to Iraq, this study (sponsored by the Rand Corporation and conducted through its National Security Research Division) presents case studies of UN involvement in the Belgian Congo, Namibia, El Salvador, Cambodia, Mozambique, Eastern Slavonia, Sierra Leone, and East Timor. Each study describes the original challenges in the areas of security, humanitarian issues, civil administration, democratization, and economic reconstruction; explores UN and other international roles in the military and police spheres and the civil and economic spheres; and then examines the results in each of the five areas mentioned above. Also included is an identically structured chapter on US-occupied Iraq and chapters drawing out general lessons. Annotation ⓒ2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
